Ultrasound screening is a non-invasive examination which can diagnose cancers in their earliest stages as well as other conditions. It is an ideal study to screen for cancers associated with the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.
What Is an Ultrasound (Sonogram)?
An Ultrasound is technology that uses sound waves to create an image of organs and structures within the body.
Our Practice specializes in Ultrasound screening to find cancers in their earliest stages.
Sonography screening can diagnose early cancers in the breast and ovaries. It can diagnose early cancers in the kidneys and pancreas as well as in the uterus, bladder, gallbladder and bile ducts.
Some of these cancers are associated with the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.
A sonogram has no radiation and there are no injections.
We also specialize in diagnosing causes of abdominal and pelvic pain such as appendicitis, diverticulitis, gallbladder disease, kidney stones and ruptured ovarian cysts. It is an excellent tool for evaluating abnormal bleeding in women, evaluating fibroids, endometriosis and all ovarian conditions. It is also a screening test for abdominal aortic aneurysms.
A sonogram is non-invasive, efficient and accurate. Our office is unique in that all sonograms are performed by a physician trained specifically in sonography and results are communicated to the patient immediately.
A screening sonogram should be part of a comprehensive annual examination for both men and women.
